MICHELLE BRANCH - GOODBYE TO YOU
Of All The Things I've Believed In I Just Want To Get It Over With
Tears From Behind My Eyes But I Do Not Cry
Counting The Days That Pass Me By
I've Been Searching Deep Down In My Soul
Words That I'm Hearing Are Starting To Get Old
Feels Like I'm Starting All Over Again
The Last Three Years Were Just Pretend
And I Said
Goodbye To You
Goodbye To Everything I Thought I Knew
You Were The One I Loved
The One Thing That I Tried To Hold On To
I Used To Get Lost In Your Eyes And It Seems
That I Can't Live A Day Without You
Closing My Eyes And You Chase My Throughts Away
To A Place Where I Am Blinded By The Light But It's Not Right
Goodbye To You
Goodbye To Everything I Thought I Knew
You Were The One I Loved
The One Thing That I Tried To Hold On To
Ooh
And It Hurts To Want Everythng And Nothing At The Same Time
I Want What's Yours And I Want What's Mine
I Want You But I'm Not Giving In This Time
Goodbye To You
(Goodbye To You)
Goodbye To Everything That I Thought I Knew
(Goodbye To You)
You Were The One I Loved
The One Thing That I Tried To Hold Onto
(The One Thing That I Tried To Hold Onto)
The One Thing That I Tried To Hold Onto
(The One Thing That I Tried To Hold Onto)
Oh Whoa
The One Thing That I Tried To Hold Onto
And When The Stars Fall I Will Be Awake
You're My Shooting Star
SONG FACTS
Writer(s): Michelle Branch
Producer(s): Michelle Branch, John Shanks
In "Goodbye To You," Michelle Branch Is Finally Pulling The Plug On A Toxic Relationship. She Sings It Rather Convincingly, But She Wrote The Song When She Was Only 15 And Hadn't Experienced Anything Like The Breakup She Describes In The Lyric. Branch, Though, Could Articulate The Feelings Of Love And Loss Quite Well Long Before She Had Been Through It Herself. With This Song, She Said She Channeled It In A Way, Like Someone Whispered It In Her Ear.
Branch Included This Song On "Broken Bracelet", An Album She Made In 2000 When She Was 16 To Sell At Her Shows And On Her Website. The Song Was Also Part Of A Demo That Got The Attention Of Maverick Records, Which Signed Her And Teamed Her With Producer John Shanks, Who Had Recently Worked With Stevie Nicks And Melissa Etheridge. They Reworked The Song For Her Maverick Debut The Spirit Room, Released In 2001. It Was The Third Single From The Set, Following "Everywhere" And "All You Wanted."
This Was Featured On An Episode Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Which Took A Novel Approach To Integrating Music. A Fictional Club On The Show Called The Bronze Featured Real Performers Like Third Eye Blind And Lisa Loeb, Whose Songs Often Integrated Into The Storylines. When Branch Sang "Goodbye To You" On The 2001 Season 6 Episode "Tabula Rasa," It Portended A Shift In Relationships, With Buffy And Spike Sparking Up A Romance While Willow And Tara Were Calling It Quits.
Branch Made A Similar Appearance On The Series Charmed (The Episode "Centennial Charmed" In 2003), Where The Club Is Called P3.
Exposure On These Shows Gave The Song A Huge Boost And Was Quite A Rush For Branch, Who Grew Up Watching Them.
