CHRISTINE AGUILERA - BEAUTIFUL

(Don't Look At Me)

Everyday Is So Wonderful
And Suddenly, It's Hard To Breathe
Now And Then, I Get Insecure
From All The Pain
I'm So Ashamed

I Am Beautiful No Matter What They Say
Words An't Bring Me Down
I Am Beautiful In Every Single Way
Yes, Words Can't Bring Me Down, Oh No
So Don't Bring Me Down Today

To All Your Friends You're Delirious
So Consumed In All Your Doom
Trying Hard To Fill The Emptiness
The Pieces Gone
Left The Puzzle Undone
Ain't That The Way It Is?

I Am Beautiful No Matter What They Say
Words An't Bring Me Down
I Am Beautiful In Every Single Way
Yes, Words Can't Bring Me Down, Oh No
So Don't Bring Me Down Today

No Matter What We Do
(No Matter What We Do)
No Matter What We Say
(No Matter What We Say)
We're The Song Inside The Tune
(Yeah, Oh Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah)
Full Of Beautiful Mistakes
And Everywhere We Go
(And Everywhere We Go)
The Sun Will Always Shine
(Sun Will Always, Always Shine)
But Tomorrow We Might Awake
On The Other Side

'Cause We Are Beautiful
No Matter What They Say
Yes Words Won't Bring Us Down, Oh No
We Are Beautiful In Every Single Way
Yes, Words Can't Bring Us Down, Oh No
So Don't You Bring Me Down Today

Don't You Bring Me Down Today
Don't You Bring Me Down...
Mmm, Today

SONG FACTS

Writer(s): Linda Perry
Producer(s): Linda Perry

This Anthem Of Self-Acceptance Came At A Time When The Internet Was Amplifying The Kind Of Bullying And Shaming That Was So Hurtful To Young People. Hearing The Glamorous Christina Aguilera Sing In A Very Heartfelt Manner About Finding The Strength To Tune These Voices Out And Overcome Our Insecurities Meant A Lot.

This Was Written By Linda Perry, Frontwoman And Songwriter In 4 Non Blondes, Known For Their 1992 Hit "What's Up." After That Group Broke Up, Perry Started Writing Songs For Herself And Others, Including The Hit "Get The Party Started" For Pink. When She Started Working With Aguilera, She Was Still Fleshing Out The Lyrics To "Beautiful" And Figuring Out What The Song Meant. In The Studio, Aguilera Asked Perry To Play One Of Her Songs To Break The Ice, So Perry Put On Her Demo Of "Beautiful." To Her Surprise, Aguilera Asked To Record It.

Aguilera Wanted To Re-Do Her Vocals On This Song To Achieve Technical Perfection, But Linda Perry Fought Hard To Keep The Emotional But Imperfect First Take; After All, The Song Is About Accepting Who We Are, So It Shouldn't Be Polished To A Sheen. It Took Months, But Aguilera Finally Agreed.

The Gay Community Embraced This Song. The Video, Directed By Jonas Akerlund, Shows A Cross-Dressing Man And A Homosexual Kiss. It Was Honored By The Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (Glaad) For Its Positive Portrayal Of Alternative Lifestyles. The Song's Writer, Linda Perry, Is A Lesbian.

This Won A Grammy For Best Female Pop Vocal, And Aguilera Performed The Song On The Show.

Elvis Costello Recorded A Cover For A The 2005 "Autopsy" Episode Of The Tv Program House. His Version Was Included On The Show's Soundtrack Album In 2007.
